During the war Kyiv Zoo saved and sheltered a large number of birds🪶 mammals 🦝 and reptiles 🐢. Total amount of rescued animals is about 400 pcs. Someone was brought from war zones, someone was left by people not being able to keep their pet any longer, and someone was simply found on the street and brought to the zoo. And there are animals that were rescued from hands of “irresponsible owners”.
Today we are introducing you to the Jako parrots rescued in spring 2022. Police officers brought seven frightened birds to Kyiv Zoo.
‼️ Parrot’s health depends on maintenance conditions. Often non-observance of hygiene, temperature regime and improper nutrition can cause different illnesses (circovirus, ornithosis, salmonellosis, etc.) and premature death. Poultry, as a rule, have good immunity but even a healthy bird can be harmed if treated unfairly.
Fortunately, our veterinarians and ornithologists managed to cure and rehabilitate them. And finally birds felt safe and comfortable in their new house, carefully made by our employees with their own hands 🥰
And now after a long quarantine rescued jako parrots welcome visitors in the winter Aviary.
✅ Special, carefully selected diet consisting of special granulated feed enriched with all the necessary vitamins and minerals is also important for their health. And also parrots are happy to eat fruits, berries and seeds.
🦜 Jako parrots are quite large birds that grow up to 30-35 centimeters and live up to 50 years and sometimes more.
In the spring when air temperature 🌡 becomes comfortable for these tropical birds, we plan to relocate them to a large outdoor enclosure where they can enjoy warm sun, fresh air and surrounding greenery ☀️🌿 We hope that they will form pairs and please us with offspring 🐣
Come and get acquainted! 💚
