Program for reproduction and renewal of rare species of animals in nature.

Kyiv Zoo develops and implements programs for reproduction and rehabilitation of rare animal species in the wild. One of these species is the common or European hamster. Once this animal was distributed throughout Ukraine, and now its distribution in our country is sporadic. Therefore, this animal was included in the Red Book of Ukraine in 2009, and in 2020 this species was recognized as critically endangered at the global level. That same year, the first 11 hamsters born in our zoo were released in the Khotinsky National Natural Park. After the release, the staff of the national park and  the zoo monitored how the hamsters adapt to the new conditions. This is the first important step in the conservation of this species in the wild.
